With our concept of urban drainage which is based on the principle of "low-impact development" is supposed to arise, thus offers the prospect of a climate-neutral area. The area is located near the Neckar river in Stuttgart. Therefore we followed the motto “from life by the water to life in the water”.
We collect all the water that occurs in the area and direct it to a large retention area in the middle of the area. Here the water can evaporate in a controlled manner and return to the groundwater cycle through natural filtering. Water that accumulates too much and cannot seep away is passed on to water reservoirs on the edge of the area, where it is filtered and stored for drier times.
This Project was made in Cooperation with Anna Adam and Nicole Blender
CYCLE CONCEPT Rainwater is channeled from the roofs of houses into cisterns that each building has. Residual rainwater is channeled from the retention areas in the middle of each block.
In the event of a rainy phase in which the cisterns fill up, excess water is then channeled into the retention areas of each block.
Since these cannot seep away all the accumulated water at once, there is an additional connection to the retention area in the middle of the area via little rivers.
The former tank towers will be used as filters. These have a connection to the sewage pipes of the block structures and receive a supply for the filtering of the water.
The filtered water is now fed back into the wastewater network of the area and the biotope, whereby the water is reused or has the opportunity to seep away and evaporate via the retention area.
