The Marburg construction system is characterized by the openness of its grid layout, the structurally independent “table units,” and the resulting multiple support points. Unlike conventional construction methods, the load-bearing structure is not the starting point of the design here; instead, the focus is on the conception of the functional units. Only afterward is the statically independent supporting structure developed.
Building on the constructive logic and modular order of the original Marburg construction system, a new timber construction system has been developed that translates these core principles into a contemporary, sustainable building method. The goal is to preserve the advantages of serial prefabrication and modular flexibility, while simultaneously overcoming the building physics and structural weaknesses of concrete construction. The load-bearing structure still follows the principle of table units, but is executed using plug-in connections, timber beams, and optimized joints.
