The objective of this project was to design and build a structure using only 12 mm multiplex plywood.
The design was to be based on an existing structure, enhancing its use or improving its placement. Production relied primarily on CNC milling, which defined the framework and constraints for panel dimensions and influenced the overall build volume. To ensure cost-effectiveness and resource efficiency, production time was also a key consideration during planning.
From the outset, we were drawn to a curved form—not only for its ability to blend harmoniously into the surroundings but also for its efficiency in distributing structural forces. By arranging multiple panels, we created an adaptive structure that invited interaction while remaining visually striking.
At the heart of the load-bearing system are two milled rings encircling the flagpole. These hold the arch, into which the milled sections of the cladding are inserted. The design is completed by a three-part seat surface, seamlessly joined together.
To capture the story behind the project’s development, three Spotify Codes were engraved into the seat surface, allowing visitors to scan them with the Spotify app and play the selected songs. The first song, "Please Don’t Break Me", reflects the cautious optimism of the early design phase. During development, discussions centered around forces and material limits—fittingly represented by "Danger Zone". Following the successful final assembly, all our design decisions were validated, and the project concluded on a confident note with "I Ain’t Worried".
